EvenUp

Document Processing

EvenUp needed to turn huge, inconsistent personal-injury case files into accurate demands, summaries, and discovery documents fast enough for smaller firms to compete, without letting polished but incorrect reasoning slip through.

300% increase in settlement offers
Delivers drafts with 16% greater completeness and fewer missing records
Documents drafted in minutes, down from 8 to 15 hours of skilled work per case
Increased accuracy on past medical expense totals by 14% on smaller cases

Reported impact

Business outcome

EvenUp reduced drafting from eight to fifteen hours of skilled legal work per case to finished drafts in about 30 minutes, raised settlement offers by 300 percent, helped customer firms clear backlogs and triple demand output, and improved smaller-case expense accuracy and overall draft completeness.

Solution

EvenUp built AI Drafts on the Claude Platform as a multi-stage document pipeline for personal-injury work. Case files often exceed 1,000 pages and include medical records, billing ledgers, police reports, scanned bills, and checkbox forms. The system climbs a cost ladder: it reads native text first, uses standard OCR where possible, and escalates to Claude vision only for the pages other methods cannot handle. Claude Sonnet and Claude Haiku manage routine extraction, while Claude Opus 4.8 handles the deeper reasoning needed to keep a thirty-page demand internally consistent and legally persuasive. EvenUp layers PI-specific data, routing, verification, and automated workflows on top, so facts get normalized once and then reused across demands, negotiation sheets, and discovery responses. Internally, teams also use Claude Enterprise and Claude Code for forecasting and debugging-agent projects.

Data flow

Medical records, billing ledgers, police reports, and scanned forms enter AI Drafts; the pipeline reads native text first, then OCR, then Claude vision when needed, and routes the extracted facts into Claude reasoning layers that assemble demands, negotiation sheets, and discovery documents with reusable structured evidence.

Solution architecture

6 components · 2 layers
  1. Compute
    • Claude Code Helps engineering build internal systems such as forecasting and agent-debugging tools.
    • Claude Sonnet Handles routine extraction work on case documents and records.
    • Claude Haiku Covers lower-cost extraction steps in the drafting pipeline.
    • Claude Opus 4.8 Performs the deepest reasoning to keep long legal arguments consistent and complete.
  2. Serving
    • Claude Platform Provides the base model platform behind EvenUp's legal drafting and review pipeline.
    • Claude Enterprise Supports internal teams using Claude for operational and analytical work beyond the product itself.

Architecture clues

  • AI Drafts uses a ladder that escalates from native text to OCR to Claude vision only when necessary.
  • Facts are normalized once and then reused across demands, negotiation sheets, and discovery responses.
  • Opus 4.8 is reserved for the reasoning work where polished legal prose can hide subtle errors.

Scoring methodology

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value95/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact25/25
    5 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale5/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence79%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    5 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance0/10
The publication date has no documented provenance.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
