WithSecure

Security and Compliance

WithSecure's solutions make cybersecurity accessible for mid-market companies that might not have specialized knowledge or security operation centers.

The Security Awareness Assistant analyzes complex data tables to provide a 7-day overview of the organization's security status in a few paragraphs.

Solution

Cybersecurity company WithSecure wanted to make it simpler for customers to understand the organizational security status and make informed decisions faster. It used Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build Luminen, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) assistant that helps organizations detect and respond to security events faster, minimizing damage and reducing downtime. Development began in December 2023 with an internal hackathon, and a public beta release came in May 2024. "Luminen was one of the fastest cases of building a product from scratch, and it wouldn't have been possible without Amazon Bedrock being a managed service," says Tasiemski. After collecting feedback and making usability improvements, WithSecure launched Luminen in September 2024.

Solution architecture

2 components · 2 layers
  1. Compute
    • Amazon Bedrock Runs the foundation model layer for the security analysis and compliance workflows.
  2. Storage
    • Amazon Neptune Stores graph relationships used by the security analysis and compliance workflows.

Architecture clues

  • It is also working on a subscription-based version, Luminen Pro, which will provide Luminen's skills through API access, generate monthly and quarterly security overviews to align with customers'...
  • Over its years of cybersecurity expertise, WithSecure has used technologies like Amazon Neptune —a serverless graph database—to build knowledge graphs and store relationships between security events.

Evidence from the source

"Cost efficiency and the availability of Amazon Bedrock in European AWS Regions were important for us too." Amazon Bedrock's robust data protection and privacy were a good fit with WithSecure's stringent security standards as well.

By choosing Amazon Bedrock —a fully managed service that offers a choice of high-performing foundation models—WithSecure eliminated the complexity and expense of self-hosting foundation models.

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value75/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth15/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact15/25
    1 metric describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale5/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence77%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    6 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance0/10
The publication date has no documented provenance.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity8/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
