Solution

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport worked with BCG to embed AI directly into frontline operations as it expanded the airport by about 20% and prepared for more than 100 million passengers a year. After a workshop with operations, public safety, maintenance, engineering, and technology teams, the program focused on two production platforms. AWARE (Advanced Warning and Response Exchange) fuses more than 10 real-time data streams and generates over 120,000 predictions a day across 26 key roadways so operations, police, and ground transport can act on congestion before it escalates. In parallel, the Resource Scheduling Optimizer combines workforce availability, maintenance demand, work-order history, sensor data, and condition data on an asset-health foundation, then serves technicians a digital work application, optimized schedules, and an asset-manager cockpit. BCG initially led delivery and then transferred ownership so DFW could operate and extend the platforms itself.

Data flow

More than 10 real-time data streams feed AWARE, which produces roadway and curbside predictions for operations, police, and ground transport teams. Separately, work-order history, sensor data, and condition information feed the asset-health foundation, which powers the Resource Scheduling Optimizer and asset-manager cockpit to dispatch technicians and guide asset decisions.

Solution architecture

4 components · 3 layers
  1. Compute
    • AWARE (Advanced Warning and Response Exchange) Fuses real-time roadway and airport-flow data to generate predictive alerts for congestion and disruption management.
  2. Storage
    • asset-health foundation Brings together work-order history, sensor data, and asset condition into a single operational data layer.
  3. Serving
    • Resource Scheduling Optimizer Plans and dispatches maintenance work by matching workforce availability with maintenance needs.
    • asset-manager cockpit Gives asset managers a consolidated view for maintenance planning and repair-or-replace decisions.

Architecture clues

  • AWARE fuses more than 10 real-time data streams and generates over 120,000 predictions a day across 26 key roadways.
  • BCG initially led product delivery before the platforms became owned and operated by DFW.
  • The Resource Scheduling Optimizer combines workforce availability with maintenance needs in a technician application and optimized schedule.
  • The asset-health foundation brings together work-order history, sensor data, and condition into a single view of each asset's health.
  • The maintenance platform was proven first in facilities maintenance and HVAC in three terminals and is scaling to all terminals and passenger-facing systems.

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value100/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact25/25
    4 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence83%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability23/25
11 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    7 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance0/10
The publication date has no documented provenance.
  • Source transparency10/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
