Solution

Zyte built its AutoExtract service on Confluent Cloud running alongside Google Cloud infrastructure to turn web crawling into a scalable event-driven extraction pipeline. Web crawlers act as Kafka producers, publishing raw page data into the streaming platform, while downstream AI and machine learning consumers transform that content into structured outputs for customers. The managed service let Zyte stand up a production-ready Kafka environment without spending weeks on cluster operations, and its cloud-vendor-aware deployment kept the Kafka cluster in the same availability zone as the rest of the application to minimize latency. Confluent Cloud also fit neatly with the team's use of Google Compute Engine and Google Cloud SQL, giving a globally distributed engineering team reliable data delivery, faster release cycles, and a stable backbone for AI-powered extraction at scale.

Data flow

Web crawlers publish page data into Confluent Cloud, AI and machine learning consumers transform the content into structured results, and Zyte then delivers those outputs back to customers through channels such as FTP, AWS S3, and Google Cloud Storage.

Solution architecture

3 components · 3 layers
  1. Compute
    • Google Compute Engine Hosts the cloud application components that run alongside the managed Kafka cluster.
  2. Storage
    • Google Cloud SQL Provides a managed data service used as part of Zyte's cloud-based AutoExtract platform.
  3. Uncategorized
    • Confluent Cloud Carries Zyte's event streams between web crawlers and downstream AI extraction services.

Architecture clues

  • Kafka producers are web crawlers and consumers are AI and machine learning models.
  • The team paired Confluent Cloud with other managed Google Cloud services to minimize maintenance work.
  • Zyte kept the Kafka cluster in the same availability zone as the rest of the infrastructure to reduce latency.

Evidence from the source

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value90/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact15/25
    1 metric describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence79%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    4 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance0/10
The publication date has no documented provenance.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
