Solution

Capillary rebuilt its personalization stack on the Databricks Data + AI Platform using a lakehouse architecture instead of its overloaded legacy data warehouse. Loyalty, transaction, and registration data from more than 400 brands flow into a unified environment that combines lake-scale storage with warehouse performance, letting the team process more than 13 billion transaction records per year without prior infrastructure drag. Capillary uses high-performance data pipelines and managed clusters on Databricks to prepare analytics for campaign execution, while MLflow simplifies the model lifecycle for targeting and retention models. Databricks SQL gives internal users visual access to results, and Delta Lake provides the shared storage foundation for analytics and machine learning. By removing manual infrastructure and MLOps work, the implementation lets Capillary launch personalized campaigns faster, improve retention, and control resource usage as client onboarding grows.

Data flow

Loyalty, transaction, and registration data from Capillary's client programs land in the Databricks lakehouse, pipelines and managed clusters prepare them for analytics and machine learning, MLflow helps operationalize models, and Databricks SQL exposes insights for teams running and optimizing personalized campaigns.

Solution architecture

4 components · 4 layers
  1. Compute
    • Databricks Data + AI Platform Provides the lakehouse environment where Capillary processes loyalty data and runs analytics and machine learning workloads for campaign personalization.
  2. Storage
    • Delta Lake Acts as the shared lakehouse storage layer for large client datasets used by analytics and machine learning pipelines.
  3. Serving
    • Databricks SQL Delivers query access and visual insight consumption for internal business users working with campaign and customer-performance data.
  4. Orchestration
    • MLflow Supports the machine learning workflow so new targeting and retention models can move to production faster.

Architecture clues

  • Capillary adopted a lakehouse architecture to unify data, analytics, and machine learning workloads.
  • Databricks visualizations help internal business consumers make decisions from campaign data.
  • High-performance data pipelines feed analytics and machine learning use cases for personalized campaigns.
  • Managed cluster and infrastructure operations removed back-end heavy lifting from the data team.

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value100/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact25/25
    5 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence89%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
