Real-time Analytics

Effective neurofeedback requires a response in under 400 milliseconds to accurately train the brain. With a legacy infrastructure, the system struggled to meet this threshold, and users often received the auditory or task-based cues seconds after their attention had already shifted.

Solution

BrainLife unlocks peak cognitive performance for all with accessible, personalised neuro-wellness tech. Effective neurofeedback requires a response in under 400 milliseconds to accurately train the brain. With a legacy infrastructure, the system struggled to meet this threshold, and users often received the auditory or task-based cues seconds after their attention had already shifted. This created inconsistent feedback that confused users and invalidated the training loop. Deploying our learning models used to mean constantly firefighting infrastructure issues. With Google Cloud, we can stop doing server maintenance and start spending our engineering effort on building models and improving the user experience. GKE manages the ingestion stream, automatically scaling resources to handle thousands of concurrent sessions without the latency spikes that held back BrainLife's legacy system.

Solution architecture

5 components · 4 layers
  1. Compute
    • Vertex AI Hosts and orchestrates machine learning and generative AI capabilities inside the solution.
  2. Storage
    • Cloud Storage Stores large files, lake data, or static assets that feed downstream analytics and applications.
    • BigQuery Stores and queries the analytics and AI-ready datasets that power the workload.
  3. Orchestration
    • Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) Orchestrates the platform's containerized services and high-concurrency workloads.
  4. Governance
    • Cloud Logging Collects logs and observability signals from the running platform.

  • With Vertex AI and GKE, we cut our model deployment time from hours to minutes. We no longer spend time configuring servers; we spend it refining the algorithms that help our users focus.

Storing and managing the heavy time-series data locally was also expensive and inefficient. The team spent valuable hours patching servers and manually managing capacity during usage spikes, rather than refining the AI models that are essen

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value80/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth15/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact15/25
    1 metric describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence77%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    6 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance0/10
The publication date has no documented provenance.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity8/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
