Breast Cancer Canada

Document Processing

Breast Cancer Canada needed a secure, ethics-approved cloud environment that could collect long-term patient-reported data and also help translate complex pathology information into plain language without the limitations of antiquated university-hosted infrastructure.

Solution

Breast Cancer Canada partnered with CloudifyAI to rebuild its patient advocacy and research platform on Google Cloud so long-term patient-reported outcomes could be collected, analyzed, and converted into clinically credible evidence. BigQuery provides the analytics backbone for large, multi-point datasets gathered through the PROgress Tracker 2.0 study, while Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Google Apps Script, Cloud Logging, and Cloud Monitoring support the surrounding application services. On top of that secure environment, CONNECT lets patients upload pathology reports, and Google Cloud AI tools perform OCR and document interpretation so medical language can be translated into understandable treatment timelines and question prompts. Gemini Notebook is also used to transform internal educational materials into clearer patient roadmaps. This architecture gave BCC an ethically compliant clinical-study platform for research publication, multi-site adoption, and a future national registry.

Data flow

Patient-reported outcomes and uploaded pathology reports enter BCC's cloud study environment, are processed and analyzed through BigQuery-backed services, translated into readable explanations and timelines through AI-assisted document interpretation, and then reused for research, advocacy, and multi-site clinical decision support.

    • Cloud Monitoring Provides operational visibility for the secure cloud platform.

Architecture clues

  • BCC plans to integrate Fitbit data and explore a national registry on top of the same environment.
  • CONNECT uses OCR and document interpretation to translate pathology reports into plain language.
  • The architecture is designed to satisfy strict ethical review and security requirements.
  • The platform became Canada's first cloud-hosted, ethically approved clinical study.

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value71/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity16/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact0/25
    0 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence85%
  • Source authority25/25
The deployment is described by the adopting organization or a government source.
  • Claim traceability23/25
11 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    5 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance0/10
The publication date has no documented provenance.
  • Source transparency9/10
2 source references document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity8/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
