Solution

IBM Consulting worked with Dun & Bradstreet to create D&B Ask Procurement, an AI assistant that blends Dun & Bradstreet Data Cloud records with IBM's procurement and supplier data. The pilot runs IBM watsonx Orchestrate on IBM Cloud and uses Llama 3 and Mistral large language models to power a conversational interface for supplier-risk analysis. Watsonx Orchestrate supplies both the chat experience and the integration layer that automates repetitive procurement tasks, connects into customer systems, and lets users query large supplier datasets without manual data entry. IBM Garage methods accelerated prototyping, while IBM Expert Labs fine-tuned the AI for specific procurement workflows. The resulting architecture gives procurement users nearly instantaneous 360-degree supplier views covering financials, ownership, ESG factors, fraud potential, and revenue-based scores, plus real-time monitoring that helps them anticipate supplier issues and onboard vendors more quickly.

Data flow

Supplier and procurement data from Dun & Bradstreet Data Cloud and customer systems flow into D&B Ask Procurement, watsonx Orchestrate automates retrieval and workflow steps, Llama 3 and Mistral interpret the combined data, and the assistant returns real-time supplier-risk views and onboarding guidance through a conversational interface.

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value90/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact15/25
    1 metric describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence89%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    5 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance10/10
The publication date comes from the source page or publisher.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
