Solution

BNP Paribas implemented an in-house AI-assisted mortgage processing workflow in November 2024 to accelerate basic home-loan approvals in France. The solution uses Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) built around the bank's internally developed Doc Factory software and NLP models trained on thousands of mortgage documents. Customer-submitted inputs such as purchase agreements, property tax documents, pay slips, and tax notices are ingested and parsed so the system can extract key fields and compare them with data already entered in the advisor's credit planning tool. The AI performs consistency checks across documents, validates borrower income details against supporting evidence, and checks the authenticity of tax notices. Results are surfaced directly inside the existing loan planning workflow, where IDP acts as a super assistant for advisors by automating document reading and validation rather than replacing human review.

Data flow

Customers submit mortgage documents including purchase agreements, property tax records, pay slips, and tax notices. IDP and Doc Factory ingest the files, extract text and key fields with NLP models, validate them against borrower data already entered in the advisor's credit planning tool, and return matched or flagged results to advisors inside the existing mortgage workflow.

Solution architecture

2 components · 2 layers
  1. Compute
    • Intelligent Document Processing Reads mortgage application documents, extracts relevant fields, compares them with the case file, and automates consistency and authenticity checks.
  2. Orchestration
    • Doc Factory Internally developed software that underpins the IDP workflow used across the Group for document processing in mortgage cases.

Architecture clues

  • AI is used only for basic mortgage loans, excluding more complex cases such as bridging loans or SCI financing.
  • BNP Paribas plans additional models from 2025 for energy performance certificates and savings account statements.
  • Current coverage centers on four main document types: purchase agreement, property tax, pay slip, and tax notice.
  • Models were trained on thousands of documents.
  • The bank plans electronic issuance for around 20% of the simplest offers at the beginning of 2026.
  • Went live in November 2024 throughout metropolitan France, including Hello bank! and private banking.

Evidence from the source

"It currently takes an average of 11 days to issue a digital offer."
"More than 80% of the document data is automatically read by AI and 60% of data is automatically matched and validated by AI."
"The AI has been trained on thousands of documents to identify the right data and then perform the appropriate checks."
"The end result is a significant time saving of around 30 minutes per file."
"The solution reads the documents provided by the customer and extracts the information needed to verify the contents of their property finance file."
"This AI was integrated directly into the existing loan planning tool"
"This IDP solution is already widely used within the Group and is based on NLP (Natural Language Processing) technologies."

Scoring methodology

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value100/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact25/25
    7 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence94%
  • Source authority25/25
The deployment is described by the adopting organization or a government source.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    10 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance10/10
The publication date comes from the source page or publisher.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
