Solution

HelloTalk built key learning experiences on Azure AI so its app could support many languages and learning styles without forcing everyone into a rigid curriculum. The platform uses speech, voice, translation, and pronunciation services directly inside social learning experiences such as Voicerooms, live streams, Moments posts, course dialogues, and chat, which lets learners get contextual help while interacting with other people rather than leaving the conversation to look up language support elsewhere. Key components include Azure AI services, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, machine translation, and pronunciation assessment. HelloTalk gives learners a more effective and immersive experience, keeps the product accessible to a broad audience, and supports a truly global learning community without reducing the social nature of the platform.

Data flow

Voice and text from Voicerooms, live streams, Moments posts, course dialogues, and chat are processed through speech-to-text, text-to-speech, translation, and pronunciation services, then returned to learners as subtitles, audio, meaning support, and speaking feedback inside the app experience.

Solution architecture

5 components · 1 layer
  1. Compute
    • Azure AI services provides the umbrella AI capability that powers HelloTalk's learning features
    • speech-to-text creates real-time transcription and subtitles in Voicerooms and live streams
    • text-to-speech reads out content in Moments posts and chat to support comprehension
    • machine translation helps learners understand conversations across languages
    • pronunciation assessment gives learners feedback on speaking quality in posts and course dialogues

Architecture clues

  • AI services are embedded into multiple in-app interaction surfaces rather than a separate assistant.
  • Real-time subtitles and pronunciation feedback are part of the runtime user flow.

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value75/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact0/25
    0 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence82%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence15/20
    3 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance10/10
The publication date comes from the source page or publisher.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity8/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
