DXC Technology

Document Processing · Risk Management · Security and Compliance

DXC needed to reduce insurance document backlogs and automate highly regulated underwriting and claims decisions without losing auditability, policy fidelity, or human oversight.

8 hours to stand up a regulated benefits calculation, 80% right on the first pass
Days to minutes for claims document backlogs, classified in under a second
Embeds new regulatory rules in days, work that historically took 12 to 18 months
The share of the calculation requiring human judgment has already dropped from 70% to 20%

Reported impact

Business outcome

DXC cut claims-document backlogs from days to minutes, classified documents in under a second, embedded new regulatory rules in days instead of 12 to 18 months, and stood up a regulated benefits calculation in eight hours that was 80 percent right on the first pass.

Solution

DXC built Assure, an orchestration layer on the Claude Platform, to insert Claude into every layer of its insurance software portfolio. Claims submissions and policy documents arrive from email, fax, paper, phone, and OCR processes, then Claude classifies and reasons over them, including hundred-page commercial claims files. Assure keeps every action logged, traceable, and replayable for regulators, and routes work across model tiers so frontier models are reserved for the hardest files. DXC also uses Claude to encode new regulations and decision logic into purpose-built Smart Apps, such as a workers' compensation weekly earnings calculator that combines legislation, documented rules, system algorithms, and DXC calculators. Because Assure is API-driven and tied to DXC's existing platforms, carriers can connect without custom setups while keeping compliance and governance built into the flow.

Data flow

Submissions and claims arrive through email, fax, paper, phone, and OCR channels, Assure routes them to Claude for classification and reasoning, Smart Apps apply insurance logic or regulatory calculations, and every action is logged so carriers and regulators can replay the decision path end to end.

Solution architecture

4 components · 3 layers
  1. Compute
    • Claude Code Helps DXC field development engineers build and refine insurance capabilities on top of Claude.
  2. Serving
    • Claude Platform Provides the model layer that reasons over insurance documents and decision logic.
    • Smart Apps Package Claude into purpose-built insurance agents such as first notice of loss and regulated benefits calculations.
  3. Orchestration
    • Assure Acts as DXC's orchestration platform for claims, underwriting, logging, and regulator-ready traceability.

Architecture clues

  • Assure logs every action, traceable and replayable end to end for regulators.
  • DXC routes work across model tiers, reserving frontier models for hundred-page claims files.
  • The workers' comp Smart App combined regulations, legislation, documented rules, system algorithms, and DXC calculators.

Evidence from the source

Claude now runs inside every layer of it, from reading claims documents to logging every action an agent takes for regulators.

Scoring methodology

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value95/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact25/25
    3 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale5/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence79%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    5 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance0/10
The publication date has no documented provenance.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
