Atos Manufacturing United States

Misumi USA

Customer Service Automation · Document Processing

Misumi USA needed to handle about 2,000 inbound emails and more than 3,000 attached documents each day, but manual routing and document handling caused frequent misrouting, slowed order and quote processing, and made it hard to move away from legacy third-party services. Customers also struggled with an engineering-based configurator that supports 80 sextillion possible product combinations, while onboarding new web product categories took 3–6 weeks because critical knowledge was siloed.

14 years reduced to 2 years for web category transformation
2,000 emails and 3,000+ documents processed daily through automated routing workflows
80 sextillion product configurations supported through scalable AI-enabled processes
80% classification accuracy achieved during proof-of-concept testing

Reported impact

Business outcome

Misumi automated high-volume email routing and document handling, achieved 80% classification accuracy in proof-of-concept testing, reduced the projected web category transformation timeline from 14 years to 2 years, and gained greater operational control by bringing specialized automation capabilities in house.

Solution

Atos and Misumi designed a multi-part AI architecture around customer communications and e-commerce operations. Inbound emails and quote or order requests are classified with Claude 3.5 Sonnet on Amazon Bedrock so work can be routed automatically instead of triaged by hand. Bedrock Data Automation extracts key fields from more than 3,000 attached documents per day. A daily customer-data feed lands in Amazon S3 so the workflow can identify and code customers without constant API calls. Misumi's homegrown content management system was re-architected to use AI for duplicate-attribute detection and better data grouping, while Amazon Connect supports technical-support interactions and AWS Lambda / API gateway enables real-time CAD generation and UI updates in the React-based frontend. Together these components turn high-volume manual routing, extraction, and configuration work into agentic workflows.

Data flow

Customer emails and attachments enter Amazon Bedrock workflows, where Claude 3.5 Sonnet classifies requests and Bedrock Data Automation extracts document data. The process enriches requests with daily customer records stored in Amazon S3, then routes work into Misumi's in-house order, quote, CMS, and frontend experiences, while Amazon Connect and AWS Lambda / API gateway handle support interactions and real-time UI actions.

Solution architecture

6 components · 4 layers
  1. Compute
    • Amazon Bedrock Hosts the AI-driven workflow for parametric search, email classification, and document automation across Misumi's routing process.
    • Claude 3.5 Sonnet Classifies inbound emails to identify orders and quote requests for automatic routing.
    • Bedrock Data Automation Extracts critical data from the thousands of attached documents that arrive with customer emails each day.
  2. Storage
    • Amazon S3 Stores the daily customer lookup feed used to identify and code customers without repeated API calls.
  3. Serving
    • Amazon Connect Supports technical-support call flows and provides a path for additional agentic voice AI integration.
  4. Orchestration
    • AWS Lambda / API gateway Enables real-time CAD generation and frontend UI updates in the React-based experience.

Architecture clues

  • A daily customer feed is loaded into Amazon S3 instead of relying on constant API calls
  • AWS Lambda / API gateway powers real-time CAD generation and frontend UI updates
  • Misumi's homegrown CMS was re-architected to use AI for duplicate-attribute detection and data grouping
  • The program transitions work from legacy third-party services to in-house automation capabilities

Scoring methodology

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value100/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact25/25
    2 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence95%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability25/25
12 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    5 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance10/10
The publication date comes from the source page or publisher.
  • Source transparency10/10
2 source references document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
