Solution

Atomicwork built Atom AI as a digital IT support assistant on Cohere's Command R+ and Rerank models using a retrieval-augmented generation design. The platform connects enterprise data sources such as SharePoint, Confluence, and other knowledge bases so employees can search company information and get support directly inside collaboration tools like Slack and Microsoft Teams. Retrieval is tuned to use less context while still maximizing faithfulness, relevancy, and context recall, and Cohere Rerank plugs directly into the pipeline to surface the strongest passages before generation. Command R+ then produces grounded answers for software updates, app provisioning, troubleshooting, and broader IT-service requests. Atomicwork moved from proof of concept to production in under a week with Rerank and extended additional use cases with Command R+ in two weeks, showing a fast path from evaluation to deployment.

Data flow

Employees ask Atom AI for help in Slack or Microsoft Teams, the assistant retrieves enterprise knowledge from SharePoint, Confluence, and other sources, Cohere Rerank sorts the strongest passages, and Command R+ generates a grounded answer that supports provisioning, troubleshooting, or information requests inside the existing collaboration workflow.

Solution architecture

7 components · 4 layers
  1. Ingest
    • SharePoint Supplies enterprise documents and knowledge that Atom AI retrieves during support interactions.
    • Confluence Provides knowledge-base content that grounds support answers and self-service search results.
  2. Compute
    • Command R+ Generates grounded answers for enterprise support and knowledge workflows after retrieval is complete.
    • Cohere Rerank Pushes the most relevant enterprise passages to the top of the retrieval pipeline to improve answer quality.
  3. Serving
    • Slack Serves as one of the collaboration surfaces where employees can ask for help and receive answers.
    • Microsoft Teams Acts as another employee-facing channel for Atom AI's self-service support experience.
  4. Orchestration
    • Atom AI Acts as the digital IT support assistant that orchestrates retrieval and response delivery for enterprise employees.

Architecture clues

  • Atomicwork evaluated answer quality using faithfulness, relevancy, and context recall.
  • Cohere's third-party API calling was relevant for many of Atomicwork's use cases.
  • Rerank integrated out-of-the-box into Atomicwork's retrieval pipeline.

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value100/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact25/25
    5 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence94%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
