Solution

Enztec partnered with IBM to build an AI-assisted publication-review workflow on IBM watsonx.ai and IBM Watson Discovery. The solution targets the earliest stage of orthopedic product research, where teams must collect, summarize and evaluate large volumes of literature before new projects advance. Watson Discovery provides intelligent document understanding across medical articles and related content, while watsonx.ai generates executive summaries and helps automate filtering so researchers can focus on the most relevant evidence. In the resulting process, selected publications are processed, logged and summarized, and researchers can search more source material without doing every step manually. That architecture converts publication review from a labor-intensive reading exercise into a searchable, summarized research pipeline that expands coverage, accelerates insight generation and helps Enztec identify potential device risks earlier in the design cycle.

Data flow

Medical publications are ingested and analyzed through Watson Discovery, watsonx.ai filters and summarizes the most relevant documents, and Enztec researchers search the resulting knowledge base to guide new product research and early risk identification.

  1. Ingest
    • IBM Watson Discovery Processes, logs and helps search the medical literature underlying Enztec's device research work.
  2. Compute
    • IBM watsonx.ai Automates filtering and summary generation across medical publications so researchers can focus on the most important findings.

Architecture clues

  • Selected publications are processed, logged and summarized before researchers review them.
  • The system combines document understanding and generative summarization rather than using a single black-box model.
  • The workflow is aimed at the discovery phase of new orthopedic device projects.

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value85/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact15/25
    1 metric describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale5/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence89%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    4 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance10/10
The publication date comes from the source page or publisher.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
