Solution

Panasonic Connect worked with IBM Research and IBM Consulting to turn shop-floor semiconductor equipment data into AI-guided process and maintenance decisions. The joint team used IBM Garage methodology to co-design two smart-factory applications for Panasonic's process automation business: one for plasma dicer recipe generation and one for plasma cleaner maintenance optimization. Deep learning algorithms built by IBM Research modeled variables such as vacuum pressure, power, electron energy, ion energies, and gases so engineers could simulate optimal recipes in seconds instead of iterating manually. A visual interface designed by IBM Consulting exposed those recommendations to engineers, while machine-mounted sensor data fed a second application that correlated operating efficiency with component condition to alert technicians to likely causes of underperformance and the best corrective action.

Data flow

Process parameters and machine-status data from Panasonic semiconductor equipment feed IBM-developed analytics models; the outputs are surfaced through visual interfaces and maintenance alerts so engineers can refine plasma recipes and technicians can intervene before performance degrades.

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value90/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth15/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact25/25
    2 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence85%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    5 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance10/10
The publication date comes from the source page or publisher.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity6/10
