Solution

Barclays is scaling a portfolio of generative AI services rather than a single isolated application. In Barclays UK, a GenAI colleague assistant is embedded into frontline service workflows to instantly surface the information colleagues need when supporting customers, which Barclays says is reducing average call handling times. In the US Consumer Bank and Private Bank and Wealth Management divisions, AI is being used to summarize calls for staff, while in Markets the production FX assistant BarxBot helps colleagues initiate trades more effectively. Barclays also integrated GitLab Duo into the software lifecycle for code suggestions, test generation, vulnerability detection, and refactoring of legacy code, models, and spreadsheets. Microsoft Copilot is being rolled out across business functions for drafting, data analysis, meeting summaries, and routine task support. A GenAI Centre of Excellence governs reusable components, experimentation, safeguards, and training so teams can connect customer and enterprise data to cloud-based AI models and intelligent agents responsibly.

Data flow

Barclays combines customer knowledge and operational context with cloud-based AI models, then serves outputs through employee-facing tools. The GenAI colleague assistant returns answers to frontline staff, call-summarization capabilities package interaction insights for banking teams, BarxBot supports FX trade initiation in Markets, and GitLab Duo plus Microsoft Copilot deliver coding and productivity assistance inside daily workflows.
