Solution
Walmart is deploying a suite of internally built AI capabilities for frontline store operations through the Walmart associate app, with its proprietary Element machine learning platform serving as the common foundation for rollout, scale, governance, and security. The implementation includes an AI-directed workflow tool for overnight stocking that interprets work context, prioritizes tasks, and recommends what associates should do next. A real-time translation feature supports text-to-text and speech-to-speech conversations in 44 languages and is tuned with Walmart-specific knowledge so store terminology and private-label product names are handled correctly. Walmart is also upgrading its long-running conversational AI assistant with GenAI so process guides can be transformed into clearer step-by-step instructions for associates. Inputs come from shift-planning needs, multilingual conversations, and internal process content; AI responses are delivered back to associates in the app, while iterative feedback loops are used to improve translation quality over time.
Data flow
Shift-planning context, associate questions, process guides, and multilingual associate or customer conversations enter through the Walmart associate app. AI services running on Walmart's Element platform prioritize tasks, generate clearer guidance from process content, and translate text or speech using Walmart-specific knowledge, then return recommendations or answers directly to associates; feedback loops are used to improve translation performance.
