The challenge: Managing and processing vast amounts of data

Data drives the work of E.ON’s roughly 80,000 employees.

Reported impact

Business outcome

Through this Microsoft EAP, E.ON has already identified three essential use cases for Copilot: assisting with daily work tasks, transcribing and minuting Microsoft Teams meetings, and efficiently locating files, chats, and emails via the Microsoft 365 Copilot chat.

  • Productivity Improvement
  • Scalability

Solution

Germany’s energy transition is changing two fundamental aspects of the country’s energy supply. First, the shift away from conventional, centralized provision through large power plants and toward green electricity is making supply more volatile. And second, energy production is becoming more decentralized through the use of geographically dispersed micro-facilities. It’s up to energy providers such as E.ON to manage this complex grid and connect all its components logically and in real time. This ties up a great deal of the workforce, whose capacity is then unavailable for other tasks. That’s why E.ON is using artificial intelligence to make its employees’ lives easier. By increasing productivity and efficiency, Copilot for Microsoft 365 is helping to transform the energy market. The challenge: Managing and processing vast amounts of data

Data flow

Copilot can search through all the data employees have access to in seconds to find the right answers.

  • They use Microsoft 365 to create presentations and graphics, as well as to amalgamate data.
  • “That includes smart IT infrastructure, digital management of power grids, and intelligent collaboration tools.” These grids feature myriad measuring stations delivering a continuous stream of data to the technicians in the control centers.
  • “The only way to ensure efficient and high-quality processing of all this data is with the help of artificial intelligence,” says Oliver Müller, Head of User Services – M365 at E.ON.

In Germany, most of these are solar systems and wind turbines, but hydroelectric, geothermal, and biogas plants are also in place where they are the most efficient option.
Someone has to check and adjust the technical conditions for thousands of new power producers and come up with new supply strategies and more efficient processes—that’s a whole lot of extra work for companies such as E.ON

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value53/100
  • Problem clarity12/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth20/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity16/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact0/25
    0 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale5/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence87%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    6 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance10/10
The publication date comes from the source page or publisher.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity8/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
