Genpact

Application Refactoring

Genpact wanted an internal ServiceNow development center of excellence that let professional developers and business users build applications faster, but it needed governance, curated AI access, and a review model that prevented citizen development from turning into shadow IT.

Business outcome

Genpact empowered 850+ citizen developers, now launches two new App Engine applications per month, delivered 25 AI-enabled use cases across a workforce of 140,000+ people, and shortened development from weeks of IT handoffs to end-of-week working prototypes without expanding its resource footprint.

Solution

Genpact built an internal development platform on ServiceNow App Engine and the ServiceNow AI Platform, then wrapped it in a governance layer before scaling it to hundreds of business users. App Engine gives both developers and non-developers a low-code and no-code runtime for new applications, while ServiceNow Otto converts a natural-language description of a business problem into an application skeleton with playbooks, process flows, code components, and catalog items. A delivery tower, governance framework, curated access to ServiceNow AI models and approved third-party LLMs, and production review checkpoints make sure prototypes become governed applications instead of shadow IT. The same internal platform now serves as Genpact's demonstrator for client work, so the company's ServiceNow practice, citizen developer community, and responsible AI controls can be reused as proof points in external engagements.

Data flow

A business user describes a problem in natural language, ServiceNow Otto turns it into an App Engine skeleton with playbooks, process flows, code components, and catalog items, and the builder refines it before the application passes governance review for production. Curated access to ServiceNow AI models and approved third-party LLMs supplies the AI layer that citizen developers use on the ServiceNow AI Platform.

Solution architecture

3 components · 2 layers
  1. Compute
    • ServiceNow Otto Turns a natural-language description into an application skeleton with playbooks, flows, code components, and catalog items.
  2. Orchestration
    • ServiceNow App Engine Provides the low-code and no-code application runtime that citizen developers build on.
    • ServiceNow AI Platform Hosts the governed internal development platform and the reusable expertise Genpact now shows customers.

Architecture clues

  • Genpact runs the platform through a delivery tower and governance framework instead of allowing unmanaged citizen development.
  • Production applications move through a review process aligned with Genpact's responsible AI guidelines.
  • The platform includes curated access to ServiceNow AI models and approved third-party LLMs.

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value75/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact0/25
    0 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence77%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    6 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance0/10
The publication date has no documented provenance.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity8/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
