Solution

Lion worked with EY to turn ServiceNow into the enterprise orchestration layer for HR, IT and finance, redesigning the hire-to-retire employee journey before automating it. Discovery workshops mapped workflows and converted pain points into user stories, then rapid prototypes were validated with office, retail and manufacturing staff. ServiceNow became the single front door for requests, knowledge and case tracking, while legacy configurations and channels were consolidated into one platform. EY integrated SAP SuccessFactors to supply HR master data and DocuSign for signature workflows, and used discovery tooling to keep the CMDB current. IT support was migrated from Cherwell into ServiceNow IT Service Management, with ServiceNow IT Operations Management added for operational visibility. Knowledge content, taxonomy and routing models were standardized so ServiceNow NowAssist and virtual agent pilots could answer employee questions, route cases and contain support demand under governed KPI and SLA controls.

Data flow

Employee requests enter a single ServiceNow portal, where standardized taxonomy, knowledge and routing logic direct users to self-help content or the right workflow. HR master data flows in from SAP SuccessFactors, signature steps connect through DocuSign, and IT support cases migrated from Cherwell run through ServiceNow ITSM and ITOM. Structured knowledge then supports NowAssist and virtual agent pilots to answer questions and contain requests.

Solution architecture

7 components · 3 layers
  1. Ingest
    • SAP SuccessFactors Provides HR master data to the ServiceNow-based employee service workflows.
  2. Serving
    • DocuSign Supplies signature workflows connected to employee-service processes.
    • ServiceNow IT Service Management (ITSM) Runs the migrated IT support function with redesigned service catalogs and case routing.
    • ServiceNow NowAssist Powers generative AI assistant pilots that use structured knowledge to contain support requests and speed resolution.
    • ServiceNow Virtual Agent Handles self-service support interactions in phased pilots built on Lion’s standardized knowledge base.
  3. Orchestration
    • ServiceNow Acts as the single employee experience and workflow layer for HR, IT and finance through a unified portal and case-routing model.
    • ServiceNow IT Operations Management (ITOM) Supports operational visibility and workstreams aligned to Lion’s technology and operational processes.

Architecture clues

  • AI capabilities are governed and validated against usability KPIs and SLAs before broader rollout.
  • Discovery tooling was used to automatically maintain the CMDB.
  • Lion standardized data, taxonomy and CMDB practices, including a CSDM-aligned taxonomy across HR and IT.
  • ServiceNow was consolidated as the enterprise orchestration layer for HR, IT and finance.
  • The platform uses a single portal/front door for HR, IT and finance services.
  • The program shifted to a managed services model ahead of the original six-year plan.
