Solution

ABN AMRO used Capgemini and Microsoft to redesign conversational banking around a new generative-AI service model. The engagement started with Applied Innovation Exchange workshops to define a three-layer digital support journey and identify where conversational AI could make customer interactions feel more personal. To execute that roadmap, the bank transitioned to Microsoft Copilot as the foundation for new large-language-model solutions and established security, privacy, and architecture guardrails before implementation. The first customer-facing deployment was Rikkie, a Gen AI chatbot introduced through Tikkie and then expanded toward the bank's broader conversational platform. Customer questions flow into the digital service layer, where Gen AI handles natural-language interactions and can scale personalized self-service before cases require human support. The result is a reusable Gen AI factory model that ABN AMRO can extend across future customer-service use cases.

Data flow

Customer interactions enter through digital service channels such as Tikkie and the conversational platform, where Rikkie uses Copilot-backed Gen AI under predefined security guardrails to handle natural-language support before broader rollout to more customer journeys.

Solution architecture

4 components · 3 layers
  1. Compute
    • Microsoft Copilot Provides the platform foundation for new large-language-model solutions in the bank's customer-service architecture.
  2. Serving
    • Rikkie Acts as the Gen AI-infused chatbot used to create more natural digital customer interactions.
    • Tikkie Serves as the first customer-facing application through which the bank tested Gen AI interactions.
  3. Orchestration
    • Conversational Platform Hosts the broader digital service environment into which Gen AI capabilities are being expanded.

Architecture clues

  • Architecture guardrails for safety, security, and privacy were defined before implementation
  • The first rollout focused on Tikkie to learn from early customer-facing use
  • The project introduced a reusable Gen AI factory approach for future solutions
  • The roadmap was shaped through innovation workshops with Capgemini and Microsoft

Scoring methodology

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value71/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity16/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact0/25
    0 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence89%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    4 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance10/10
The publication date comes from the source page or publisher.
  • Source transparency10/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity8/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
