Solution

EDP Redes España and Capgemini replaced slow manual power-line inspections with an AI inspection stack built around computer vision, deep learning, and MLOps. The project began with a detailed review of inspection workflows, then introduced an MLOps platform that could train models from relatively small labeled datasets, plus an image-processing and inspection layer that attached geolocation data to network assets. The team used LandingAI and AWS technologies, first validating the approach in a proof of concept across three use cases and then extending it to nine more use cases in three countries. Helicopter images flow through the processing pipeline, AI models flag likely defects, and the inspection platform delivers prioritized results to field teams. Capgemini and EDP also ran change-management work so inspectors could adopt the new operating model without disrupting regular network maintenance.

Data flow

Helicopter inspection images are ingested and processed, geolocation is attached to the relevant assets, MLOps-managed computer-vision models analyze the imagery for defects, and the inspection platform returns prioritized findings to network inspection teams.

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value75/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact0/25
    0 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence89%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
