Solution

CarbonHelix uses IBM QRadar Suite as the observability and analytics backbone for its 24x7 managed security operations center. QRadar gives the company full visibility across heterogeneous customer environments, including on-premises, air-gapped, virtual, AWS, Azure, IBM AS/400, IBM AIX and mainframe systems, and supports integration with homegrown and third-party applications that many SIEM tools struggle to ingest. On top of that visibility, CarbonHelix applies QRadar's machine-learning-based user behavior analytics and network threat analytics to detect anomalous activity at a scale human analysts cannot match. It then feeds UBA signals into QRadar SOAR so risky user behavior can trigger faster automated response actions. The company is also expanding its stack with IBM Guardium and third-party AI-driven endpoint detection and response, making QRadar both the correlation layer for today's SOC workflows and the integration hub for new AI-accelerated response capabilities.

Data flow

Logs, flow data, user activity and other telemetry from customer environments are ingested into QRadar Suite, machine-learning analytics identify anomalies and risky behavior, and validated findings are passed into QRadar SOAR and adjacent EDR tooling to speed response.

Solution architecture

3 components · 3 layers
  1. Compute
    • IBM QRadar Suite Collects and analyzes customer security telemetry to provide visibility and anomaly detection across diverse environments.
  2. Orchestration
    • IBM QRadar SOAR Automates response actions when risky behavior or threats are detected.
  3. Governance
    • IBM Guardium Adds data-security capabilities that CarbonHelix is incorporating into its managed services.

Architecture clues

  • QRadar is deployed in on-premises, air-gapped, hosted and public-cloud environments.
  • The service is being extended with Guardium and third-party AI for endpoint analysis.
  • UBA signals are integrated into QRadar SOAR for automated mitigation.

Evidence from the source

"The machine learning is able to analyze activity patterns on a scale that no human analyst is capable of"
"We can deploy QRadar in any form or fashion-on-premises, in air-gapped environments, if we host it, if a customer hosts it, hardware, virtual, AWS, Azure"
"We're using AI to feed our SOC better information, quicker"
"integrating UBA into the IBM QRadar SOAR component"
"there's nothing that we have come across that we have not been able to integrate into QRadar"

Scoring methodology

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value75/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact0/25
    0 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence87%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    5 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance10/10
The publication date comes from the source page or publisher.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity8/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
