IBM Systems Assurance

IT Operations Automation

Project leads in IBM Systems Assurance were spending hours each week preparing for status meetings and consolidating updates from spreadsheets, slides, boards and tracking tools, yet leaders still lacked timely, consistent visibility.

Solution

IBM Systems Assurance built GPS reporting on IBM watsonx Orchestrate and IBM Cloud to replace meeting-heavy project reporting with a real-time AI workflow. Team members submit updates directly into GPS, which structures project data and automatically notifies stakeholders through Slack. Watsonx Orchestrate provides the large-language-model and agent foundation for generating tailored summaries such as verbatim updates, risk-focused views and 3Ps snapshots, while dashboards and filters expose the latest project health to project leads and executives. The application was first created during the IBM watsonx Challenge and quickly moved from proof of concept into production use inside the Hardware Compliance organization. Instead of manually reconciling status from multiple tools, the organization now has one reporting layer that collects updates, produces AI-generated insight and supports more strategic conversations. The solution demonstrates how agentic reporting can reduce administrative burden while improving decision speed and transparency across complex internal portfolios.

Data flow

Project updates are entered into GPS, watsonx Orchestrate structures and summarizes the information, dashboards expose portfolio health in real time, and Slack notifications push the relevant outputs to stakeholders and leaders.

Solution architecture

3 components · 2 layers
  1. Serving
    • IBM Cloud Hosts the GPS reporting application and the supporting reporting environment used by Systems Assurance teams.
    • Slack Distributes notifications and stakeholder updates triggered by the GPS reporting workflow.
  2. Orchestration
    • IBM watsonx Orchestrate Generates summaries and provides the agent framework for multi-step project-status reporting workflows.

Architecture clues

  • Different summary modes such as verbatim, risk-focused and 3Ps were built into the reporting experience.
  • Project reporting is now mandated within IBM's Hardware Compliance organization and is expanding to other teams.
  • The solution was initially developed during the 2025 IBM watsonx Challenge and then entered production.

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value90/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact15/25
    1 metric describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence89%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    4 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance10/10
The publication date comes from the source page or publisher.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
