Solution

Tricon began using IBM watsonx Orchestrate to automate reporting, communications and next-best-action workflows across its vessel-services operation. The company’s processes had long depended on institutional knowledge and close supervision, creating risk as employees retired or left. Through a collaboration with ThisWay Global, Tricon used watsonx Orchestrate to automate form completion, surface task-specific communications and let more people participate in workflows while still following company standards and templates. Because the platform is cloud-based and configurable without heavy coding, it can be accessed from anywhere, including ship-based and remote environments. The design turns operations data and prior process steps into guided actions and generated communications, reducing manual input and making knowledge more reusable. This creates a practical automation layer for shipping logistics where timing, documentation quality and cross-team coordination all matter.

Data flow

Operational inputs and prior task context are fed into watsonx Orchestrate, which generates forms, communications and next-best actions for onboard agents and operations staff across shipping workflows.

Evidence from the source

The manual completion of required forms takes each onboard agent four hours a week—with watsonx Orchestrate, the same forms are completed automatically in 30 minutes.
The next best action capabilities of watsonx Orchestrate enable Tricon to access data and generate relevant communications based on the task or action previously performed.
The watsonx Orchestrate demo showed we could eliminate manual data input, minimize errors and increase process velocity across multiple departments.

Scoring methodology

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value100/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact25/25
    2 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence84%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence15/20
    3 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance10/10
The publication date comes from the source page or publisher.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
