Document360

Enterprise Knowledge Search

Document360 needed its Eddy AI assistant to answer multi-part documentation questions accurately without breaking access controls or adding a separate vector database to keep in sync.

The unified architecture boosted baseline response accuracy to 94%, reduced user dislikes by 30%, and ensured 2-4-millisecond return times.
“This resulted in inconsistent answers that eroded customer trust.”
“Using a separate vector database for AI use cases meant we had to replicate all the data and keep it in sync.”

Solution

Document360 kept its knowledge-base AI stack on MongoDB by pairing MongoDB Vector Search on Atlas with Atlas Search and Voyage AI instead of replicating data into a separate vector store. The platform already served as a single source of truth for enterprise documentation and relied on detailed content permissions baked into MongoDB. When the Eddy AI assistant began handling more complex multi-intent prompts, small wording changes frequently pulled the wrong context and undermined customer trust. Rather than duplicate documents and permissions elsewhere, Document360 stored vectors in Atlas beside the source content and used hybrid keyword plus semantic search to retrieve the right passages natively. Voyage AI powers the embedding side of the stack, while Atlas keeps access controls and search in one governed platform. This gives Eddy low-latency retrieval, more reliable answers, and a simpler operational model for enterprise documentation use cases.

Data flow

Documentation content and permissions remain in MongoDB Atlas, Voyage AI generates embeddings for that content, Atlas Search and MongoDB Vector Search on Atlas run hybrid retrieval against the same governed corpus, and Eddy uses the retrieved passages to answer complex user questions with low latency.

Solution architecture

4 components · 3 layers
  1. Compute
    • Voyage AI Generates the embeddings Document360 uses for semantic search.
  2. Storage
    • MongoDB Atlas Stores Document360's governed documentation corpus and the permissions model Eddy depends on.
  3. Serving
    • Atlas Search Supplies keyword retrieval that Document360 combines with semantic matching for hybrid search.
    • MongoDB Vector Search on Atlas Performs semantic retrieval over documentation embeddings for Eddy's AI responses.

Architecture clues

  • Document360 rejected external vector databases because permissions were already embedded in MongoDB.
  • Eddy is Document360's AI assistant.
  • Hybrid retrieval combines keyword and semantic search natively in Atlas.
  • The architecture preserves a single source of truth for operational and compliance reasons.

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value85/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact15/25
    1 metric describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale5/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence82%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability23/25
11 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    4 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance0/10
The publication date has no documented provenance.
  • Source transparency9/10
2 source references document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
