Solution
Factory built an AI-native command center for software development by embedding OpenAI reasoning models into each phase of the engineering lifecycle. The platform uses o3-mini for codebase exploration and documentation lookup where speed matters, OpenAI o1 for architectural planning and system-level reasoning, and GPT-4o for code generation, editing, and review with lower-latency predicted outputs. Around those models, Factory’s context-first architecture retrieves information from codebases, documentation, and issue-tracking systems so developers can plan, understand dependencies, and act without switching across tools. The company is also experimenting with reinforcement fine-tuning o3-mini for code reranking and lightweight guidance injection to improve compliance. Its long-term direction is to connect reasoning models to source control, project management, team communication, monitoring, and delivery systems so AI can proactively plan, execute, and refine engineering work.
Data flow
Codebase content, documentation, issue-tracker context, and developer tasks are pulled into the Factory Platform. The platform routes exploration to o3-mini, planning to o1, and execution to GPT-4o, then returns code, insights, and workflow actions in one environment instead of multiple disconnected tools.
