Solution

Moderna paired organization-wide change management with ChatGPT Enterprise to make generative AI part of every function. The rollout started with mChat, an internal chatbot built on OpenAI’s API that reached more than 80% employee adoption and prepared the company for ChatGPT Enterprise. Moderna then drove a broader transformation program with training, AI learning companions, prompt contests, executive sponsorship, local office hours, and a cohort of internal Generative AI Champions. Once employees could create their own GPTs, hundreds of use cases appeared across the business. One notable example is Dose ID, a GPT that uses advanced data analysis to review clinical data, analyze vaccine-dose options, cite sources, generate charts, and help study teams make safer, faster clinical decisions. Additional GPTs summarize contracts, answer policy questions, and translate biotech language for investor communications. Across the company, AI acts as an amplifier for a few thousand people to work more like an organization many times their size while keeping humans in charge of final judgment.

Data flow

Internal business, clinical, legal, and communications tasks flow into ChatGPT Enterprise and Moderna’s custom GPTs. mChat and enterprise workspaces collect prompts and patterns, while Dose ID processes large clinical datasets and returns cited rationales and visualizations for human-led study review.

Solution architecture

Scoring methodology

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value100/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact25/25
    5 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence87%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    4 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance8/10
The publication date comes from publisher-controlled metadata.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
