Solution

Morgan Stanley paired GPT-4 with an evaluation-driven rollout so advisor-facing AI could be trusted before it reached production. AI @ Morgan Stanley Assistant serves as an internal chatbot for wealth-management teams, using retrieval over the firm’s growing corpus of intellectual capital to answer advisor questions quickly and consistently. The team continuously refined prompts, retrieval methods, and translation support through evals scored by advisors and prompt engineers, expanding coverage from 7,000 questions to effectively any question across 100,000 documents. On top of that foundation, Morgan Stanley launched AI @ Morgan Stanley Debrief, which combines Whisper and GPT-4 to turn consented Zoom calls into client notes, CRM updates, and draft follow-ups. Daily regression testing, expert review, and zero-data-retention controls keep outputs aligned with financial-services requirements.

Data flow

Advisor questions are routed through AI @ Morgan Stanley Assistant, which retrieves and summarizes content from the firm’s internal document corpus. Client meeting recordings flow through Whisper and GPT-4 in Debrief, then reviewed notes and follow-ups are pushed into CRM systems for advisors to finalize.

Solution architecture

4 components · 3 layers
  1. Ingest
    • Whisper Transcribes Zoom recordings so Debrief can summarize meetings and extract action items.

Scoring methodology

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value100/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact25/25
    2 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence87%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    4 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance8/10
The publication date comes from publisher-controlled metadata.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
