Solution

Superhuman used the OpenAI API to turn email from a manual workflow into a layered AI experience inside the inbox. The company launched Superhuman AI, a suite of capabilities that includes Write with AI for full-email drafting, Rewrite in Your Voice and Write with Your Voice for tone-aware composition, Auto Summarize for one-line thread summaries, and Instant Reply for one-click contextual responses. Because these features live directly in the email product and integrate with Gmail and Outlook workflows, users can move faster without paying the switching costs of external tools. OpenAI’s zero-data-retention support also helped Superhuman meet the privacy expectations that come with handling confidential email threads. The company is now extending the same foundation toward agentic inbox experiences where messages come pre-summarized, replies are pre-drafted, and future AI agents can triage, schedule, and take basic online actions on behalf of the user.

Data flow

Incoming email threads are summarized by Auto Summarize, while user prompts or dictated notes flow through Write with AI and related features to generate complete messages. Contextual reply suggestions are then surfaced through Instant Reply so users can process inboxes faster without leaving Superhuman.

Solution architecture

5 components · 2 layers
  1. Compute
    • OpenAI API Powers the language-generation and summarization features inside Superhuman AI.
  2. Serving

Scoring methodology

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value100/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact25/25
    3 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence89%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
