Artificial intelligence is currently transforming entire sectors and industries. And in the area of education, AI is also ushering in a host of potential new applications that are asking to be researched, tested, and implemented.

As part of a scientific study, we ascertained that since the introduction of the exam trainer, the average time IU students need to complete online courses has fallen by 27 percent.

Syntea’s net promoter score—a metric for customer satisfaction—is roughly 74 percent. One reason for this high score is that Syntea uses natural language, which allows students to communicate with the study buddy as they would with a human. Another reason is that Syntea offers such a wide range of features.

Solution

IU Internationale Hochschule built this solution on Azure OpenAI Service, Microsoft Teams. Artificial intelligence is currently transforming entire sectors and industries. And in the area of education, AI is also ushering in a host of potential new applications that are asking to be researched, tested, and implemented. Azure OpenAI Service provides the generative AI model layer used for summarization, drafting, classification, or copilots in the workflow. Microsoft Teams presents collaboration workflows and shared communication experiences to end users. But IU is taking this another step further: “Ideas for how to integrate AI into a study buddy were around even before ChatGPT came out. But at that time, AI models for processing natural language weren’t yet suitable for use at universities,” says Quintus Stierstorfer, Director Synthetic Teaching at IU.

Data flow

Messages, calls, or requests enter the existing workflow, Azure OpenAI Service classifies or summarizes them, and the reviewed output is surfaced to agents and frontline staff.

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value76/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth20/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity16/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact15/25
    1 metric describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale5/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence89%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    4 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance10/10
The publication date comes from the source page or publisher.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
