Solution

Clay built Claygent with GPT-4 to turn web research and sales-enrichment work into an agentic workflow. Instead of forcing teams to juggle multiple data providers and manual research tasks, Claygent visits websites, finds relevant information, summarizes it, and feeds those insights into outreach workflows much like a sales researcher would. To keep the system efficient, Clay uses GPT-4 to reason about where on a site the needed information is likely to appear before scraping, then narrows the search space with a binary-search pattern instead of sending entire sites through the model. The broader Clay platform also assigns different models to different tasks: smaller, cheaper models support tools like AI Formula Generator for plain-English data transformations, while GPT-4 Turbo is reserved for more complex workflows. Cross-verification against multiple data sources and models helps assess trustworthiness so small GTM teams and “Claygencies” can operate at agency scale with only one or two people.

Data flow

Lead and website targets enter Claygent, which uses GPT-4 to decide what sections to scrape and how to summarize findings. Enriched data is then checked against other providers and models, and the results feed personalized outreach and GTM workflows inside the Clay platform.

Solution architecture

4 components · 3 layers
  1. Compute
    • GPT-4 Reason about where to search and how to interpret website content for lead enrichment.
    • GPT-4 Turbo Handles more complicated product tasks that need greater speed and intelligence.
  2. Serving
    • AI Formula Generator Lets non-technical users transform data using plain-English instructions and examples.
  3. Orchestration
    • Claygent Researches websites, extracts relevant company information, and summarizes it for outreach workflows.

Architecture clues

  • Binary-search approach narrows the search space instead of sending whole websites to the model
  • Clay cross-verifies enriched data against multiple sources and models
  • Claygent asks GPT-4 where on a site the desired information is likely to live before scraping
  • Different models are selected per task for cost and performance optimization

How scores are calculated

Customer Reference Value measures usefulness as a customer reference. Evidence Confidence measures the quality and traceability of available evidence, not independent verification.

Customer reference value100/100
  • Problem clarity20/20
Measures whether the customer's operational problem is specific enough to compare.
  • Implementation depth25/25
Rewards named components, data flow, integrations, and architecture detail.
  • Outcome specificity20/20
Measures whether the reported benefit is concrete rather than a generic claim.
  • Quantified impact25/25
    4 metrics describe measurable impact.
  • Deployment scale10/10
Rewards evidence of a live or scaled deployment and meaningful integration scope.
Evidence confidence89%
  • Source authority20/25
The main evidence is an official vendor-published customer story.
  • Claim traceability21/25
10 of 12 key fields link to a named source.
  • Direct evidence20/20
    4 direct source quotes retained.
  • Date provenance10/10
The publication date comes from the source page or publisher.
  • Source transparency8/10
1 source reference document publisher, URL, authority, retrieval, and supported fields.
  • Implementation specificity10/10
Rewards source-backed components, data flow, quantified impact, and a specific outcome.
