NatWest extended mortgage guidance into ChatGPT so customers and non-customers can explore borrowing, affordability, deposit, and remortgage options in a more personalized and accessible way, then move into NatWest advice and digital application channels for next steps.
Solution
NatWest Group implemented a branded mortgage-guidance experience inside ChatGPT so people can start home-buying or remortgage conversations in an LLM interface and then continue in the bank's own channels. In the front end, the NatWest app is surfaced through the ChatGPT app store and identified in-chat as NatWest, making the assistant the serving layer for customer interactions. For grounding and calculation, ChatGPT calls publicly available NatWest APIs that supply the bank-specific logic and data needed to estimate borrowing capacity, test affordability and deposit scenarios, and return tailored mortgage rates from details such as income and monthly outgoings. The responses stay in the ChatGPT conversation, but users are handed off to NatWest-owned channels for specialist advice, colleague appointments, or digital mortgage applications. The release does not describe a separate storage tier, model-hosting setup, or internal orchestration beyond the API integration and channel handoff.
Data flow
Users ask mortgage or remortgage questions in the NatWest app inside ChatGPT. ChatGPT passes customer-provided inputs such as income and monthly outgoings to publicly available NatWest APIs, which return borrowing estimates, affordability and deposit-scenario calculations, and tailored mortgage rates. The grounded response is delivered back in the chat, then users are directed into NatWest-owned advice, appointment, or digital mortgage application channels.
